India approved for $428 million in military helicopter and artillery system support

The U.S. Department of State gave the green light this past Monday to a massive $428 million support package for India, aimed at bolstering the country's military capabilities and reinforcing the strategic partnership between Washington and New Delhi.

Elevating Air and Ground Defense

This approval covers critical sustainment services for India's Apache helicopters and its artillery systems. The initiative is designed to sharpen India’s homeland defense and serve as a deterrent against regional threats.

The Apache helicopter support, valued at $198.2 million, will provide essential personnel training, logistics, and engineering services via U.S. Government and contractor oversight. Boeing and Lockheed Martin have been tapped as the principal contractors for these aviation assets. As noted by the Times of India, the Indian Air Force and Army have already received 28 Apache AH-64E attack helicopters in previous procurement deals.

Artillery Sustainment

Additionally, $230 million has been earmarked to support the M777A2 ultra-light howitzers through defense contractor BAE Systems. This funding will cover field service representatives, technical assistance, training, and depot capabilities.

BAE Systems highlights the versatility of this hardware, which is designed for easy transport by land, sea, or air. With a total of 1,200 units delivered across U.S., Australian, Canadian, and Indian forces, the platform is a cornerstone of modern mobile artillery.

According to 205focus.com, this latest authorization is seen as a major step in deepening defense cooperation, ensuring India remains well-equipped to manage its security interests in a complex global landscape.
