Laura Rutledge pens heartfelt farewell to SEC Nation: ‘It has truly been an honor’
The farewell was posted during the first day of SEC spring meetings.
As the SEC spring meetings get underway, a staple of the SEC Network is officially turning the page. Laura Rutledge shared an emotional farewell to SEC Nation on Monday, reflecting on a tenure she described as one of the most meaningful chapters of her life.
A New Chapter for Rutledge and SEC Nation
Rutledge, who has served as the host of the network's flagship football pre-game show since 2017, is stepping away from the desk. It was reported in March that Matt Barrie will replace Rutledge as host this coming fall. For her part, Rutledge is expected to transition into expanded responsibilities within ESPN’s NFL coverage as the network prepares to broadcast its first Super Bowl in February 2027.
Looking Back at a Defining Era
Writing about her departure, the broadcaster, who is married to former Alabama baseball standout Josh Rutledge, emphasized that the show was much more than just a job. She credited the crew, her colleagues, and the passionate fanbase with making the experience unforgettable.
"SEC Nation has never just been a show to me," Rutledge wrote. "It’s been a family, a front-row seat to the passion of college football and a weekly reminder of what makes the SEC so special."
She specifically highlighted the camaraderie with her analysts—Tim Tebow, Paul Finebaum, Jordan Rodgers, Roman Harper, Marty Smith, and Ryan McGee—calling them all exceptional. She also extended her gratitude to Greg Sankey, the SEC, and ESPN for the opportunity to tell the stories of athletes, coaches, and communities across the conference.
A Legacy on the SEC Network
SEC Nation has been a fixture on the SEC Network since it launched in 2014. Joe Tessitore hosted the pre-game program during its first two years, followed by Maria Taylor in 2016, before Rutledge stepped into the role in 2017.
Reflecting on the impact the show had on her own personal and professional development, Rutledge offered a final message to the viewers: "Thank you for letting me be a part of your Saturdays, your traditions and your stories. It has truly been an honor."
