The music world is mourning the loss of R&B legend Peabo Bryson. The Grammy-winning vocalist, best known for providing the voice behind two of Disney’s most iconic animated hits, has passed away at the age of 75.
A Legacy of Iconic Music
According to a statement provided to USA Today, the singer passed away peacefully at 5 p.m. Tuesday. His family noted that he was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his death, which came just two days after he suffered a stroke.
Bryson’s storied career ignited in the late 1970s. He established himself as a powerhouse on the Billboard R&B charts, most notably reaching the top spot in 1991 with his release, “Can You Stand The Rain.” His catalog of hits also includes favorites like “Can You Stop The Rain,” “Lost in the Night,” and “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again.”
Disney Magic and Grammy Success
Beyond his solo success, Bryson became a household name for his contributions to the world of animation. He famously teamed up with Celine Dion for the title track of “Beauty and The Beast” and joined Regina Belle for the classic “A Whole New World.” Both duets earned him back-to-back Grammy Awards for best pop performance by a duo or group with vocals in 1993 and 1994.
“We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world,” the Bryson family shared in their statement. “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”
