NFL star violates parole, will miss OTAs to serve jail time

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is set to miss the team's upcoming organized team activities and mandatory minicamp. The NFL star has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail after failing a drug test, testing positive for marijuana, which constituted a violation of his parole terms.

Legal Troubles Mount

According to ESPN, the Texas State Attorney’s Office confirmed the news on Tuesday. The jail time is being served as a condition of his original sentence regarding a third-degree felony charge for racing and causing bodily injury. The charges stem from a high-profile crash in Dallas two years ago that resulted in injuries to multiple individuals.

Timeline of Events

Rice is currently expected to be released from custody on June 16. With the receiver sidelined for the duration of his stay, he will miss crucial developmental time with the Chiefs during OTAs and minicamp. Additionally, his trial is currently scheduled for June 9.

The current situation traces back to a plea agreement reached last summer, which included five years of deferred probation and the 30-day jail term as a specific condition. Authorities previously noted that on March 30, 2024, Rice was operating a Lamborghini Urus at 119 mph. During the incident, he allegedly performed aggressive maneuvers that led to a collision with other vehicles, after which he reportedly fled the scene on foot without checking on the victims.
