Pihakis Restaurant Group faces eviction lawsuit over shuttered Birmingham office
It's the fourth lawsuit filed in connection with the restaurant group.
The Birmingham-based Pihakis Restaurant Group is facing further legal pressure as the company navigates a period of significant turmoil. 101 Parkside has initiated an eviction lawsuit, known as an unlawful detainer, against the firm regarding its office space located at 101 12th St. S., Suite 300, in Birmingham.
This office location has remained shuttered for several weeks. The legal action, filed Tuesday in Jefferson County District Court, alleges a breach of a commercial lease agreement after 101 Parkside issued a lease termination notice and the group failed to surrender the premises. No specific dollar amount is linked to this latest claim, and the complaint does not currently name an attorney for the Pihakis Restaurant Group.
A Growing List of Financial Hurdles
This eviction filing marks the fourth lawsuit hitting the company as it grapples with widespread instability. Previously, the group has been tied to three separate lawsuits involving over $1 million in unpaid bills, alongside liens in two counties from developer Michael Mouron that exceed $12.6 million.
The restaurant empire began experiencing dramatic shutdowns on April 12, starting with the permanent closure of the Tasty Town Greek Restaurant and Lounge. Since then, many workers have faced the fallout of the sudden collapse.
Status of Remaining Locations
While the broader organization struggles, four former group locations appear to have found paths forward under new ownership:
- Full Circle: The concept founded in 2016 by chef Wil Drake as Hero Doughnuts & Buns has reopened in Homewood under its new name.
- Salice: Formerly Luca Lagotto, the Homewood spot continues with founder and operating partner Chef Rita Bernhardt.
- Little Donkey: This Homewood staple successfully changed hands to ensure continued service.
- Magnolia Point: This Southside favorite, known for its Gulf-centric menu, remains in operation.
Additionally, pitmaster Rodney Scott has expressed his intent to reopen his restaurants following the disruptions caused by the Pihakis Restaurant Group's recent closures.
