Pizza chain brings back nostalgic traditions, from those red plastic cups to school fundraisers

Pizza Hut is tapping into a major wave of nostalgia, betting that fans crave the classic vibes of the good old days. The chain has rolled out 155 locations that bring back the iconic red roof design, alongside those unmistakable red plastic cups, Tiffany-style lamps, and classic arcade games.

A Trip Down Memory Lane

According to Nation’s Restaurant News, the brand is officially reviving its legendary Book It program. The initiative allows kids from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade to snag free Personal Pan Pizzas by hitting specific reading goals throughout the summer. The program runs from June through August, with families managing their goals via the Book It mobile app.

Supporting Schools with Every Slice

In a major expansion of its community efforts, Pizza Hut is teaming up with General Mills for a new partnership with Box Tops for Education. Customers can now support local schools by scanning their receipts from the Book It family meal. This special meal deal—priced at $14.99—includes a medium one-topping pizza and two one-topping Personal Pan Pizzas.

The Hut Originals Platform

These initiatives are part of the new "Hut Originals" platform at 205focus.com, aimed at honoring the traditions and menu items that have defined generations of Pizza Hut fans. Chief Marketing Officer Melissa Friebe noted that after seeing the overwhelming popularity of their "Classic" locations, the company felt it was the perfect time to double down on nostalgic experiences. Whether it is the reading program or fresh partnerships, the chain plans to keep the momentum going all summer long.
