Popular NBA analyst, longtime NBA vet, dead at 59
King had a decorated college career before becoming a three-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls.
The basketball community is mourning a significant loss after the Chicago Bulls announced on Sunday that former forward and beloved broadcast analyst Stacey King has passed away at the age of 59.
A Storied Legacy in Chicago
King arrived in the NBA following a standout collegiate career at The University of Oklahoma. He became a fixture for the Chicago Bulls, serving as a vital contributor off the bench during the franchise’s historic first three-peat alongside icons Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.
Bulls owner and chairman Jerry Reinsdorf honored King's lasting impact in a public statement: “Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization’s history. His connection to Chicago, the Bulls and our fans spanned more than three decades — first as a player and later as the unmistakable voice that helped bring Bulls basketball into the homes of generations of fans.”
Reinsdorf added, “We will miss him deeply and remember the joy, energy, humor, candor and passion that he brought to our organization, our broadcasts, and our fans every day.”
From the Court to the Booth
Following his time on the floor, which included stops with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat, and Boston Celtics, and a coaching stint in the CBA, King returned to his roots. In 2006, he began his tenure as a game analyst for the Bulls.
King quickly became a viral sensation, known for his high-energy style and memorable one-liners. Alongside broadcast partner Adam Amin, he formed one of the most recognizable commentary duos in the NBA, attracting viewers from across the country who tuned in just to hear his signature calls. Among his many contributions, King is remembered for bestowing the nickname “The Windy City Assassin” on Bulls stars for their clutch performances.
