Recruiting roundup: Auburn football impresses top recruits during Big Cat Weekend event
Four top recruits share their impressions of Auburn's recruiting event and reveal when they plan to commit, with dates ranging from late June to July.
The Auburn football program officially wrapped up its first Big Cat recruiting event under the direction of Alex Golesh this past Saturday. It was a high-energy affair, highlighted by a pool party that saw the coaching staff spending the entire day connecting with some of the country's most promising prospects.
Recruits Weighing Their Options
Several top-tier athletes left the Plains with a renewed interest in the Tigers. Here is a look at what four key recruits had to say about their experience and where their heads are at regarding their upcoming commitments.
Nash Johnson III
Former Alabama commit Nash Johnson III is clearly high on Auburn. The 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback, ranked as the No. 585 player and No. 58 corner in the 2027 class by the 247Sports Composite, is feeling at home. "Auburn is at the top," Johnson noted, citing proximity to home and his trust in Coach Demarcus Van Dyke. He remains in the mix with Clemson, Miami, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.
Christian Mays
For defensive lineman Christian Mays, the visit was a turning point. The 6-foot-4, 345-pound JUCO talent out of Northeast Mississippi Community College praised defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams for his hospitality and expertise. "Auburn’s definitely at the top of my list now," Mays stated. He has upcoming visits with Arkansas and Tennessee, but plans to reach a final decision shortly after.
Jalanie George
Arizona's top-ranked player, edge rusher Jalanie George, was impressed by the atmosphere on the Plains. "I loved the energy and all the coaches I met," said the 6-foot-5, 245-pound standout. After recording 54 tackles and 6.5 sacks in 2025, George is already looking ahead, with plans to attend three Auburn games this fall as he continues building relationships with the staff.
Junior Tu’upo
Class of 2027 safety Junior Tu’upo is feeling the pull of the "Thompson pipeline." With former Thompson High stars like Kaleb Harris and AnQuon Fegans already in the fold, Tu’upo is feeling the pressure to join the tradition. He confirmed that Auburn remains firmly in his top five, and he plans to finalize his commitment in the last week of June.
