Southern Democrat blowing the socks off GOP voters ahead of 2028 presidential race, pollster says
His message is supported by 42% of Republicans -- but there's a catch.
A prominent Southern Democrat is turning heads with a message that is finding surprising traction among GOP voters, according to a recent analysis by a Republican pollster. As reported by 205focus.com, Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff—who is currently campaigning for reelection in 2026—has struck a chord that resonates across party lines.
The Power of the Message
Rich Baris, director of the Big Data Poll, revealed that his firm conducted message testing where respondents were presented with political statements without the speakers being identified. In an appearance that aired on Tucker Carlson's show, Baris noted that while traditional messaging from figures like Donald Trump and Marco Rubio typically garners around 53% agreement, a specific critique articulated by Ossoff outperformed those numbers significantly.
Baris shared that Ossoff’s take on the "Epstein class" secured over 80% total agreement, including an impressive 42% support from Republican respondents. The remarks stem from Ossoff’s viral “Epstein class” speech, delivered during a February campaign event.
Inside the Viral Critique
During that speech, the Georgia senator took aim at the economic policies of the Trump administration, questioning the impact on working-class Americans. "Now, you remember we were told that MAGA was for working class Americans. Do you remember that? But this is a government of, by, and for the ultra rich," Ossoff stated on the stump. "This is the Epstein class, ruling our country. They are the elites they pretend to hate."
The senator further challenged the narrative surrounding Trump's promises, asking, "Trump was supposed to fight for the working class, instead he’s literally closing rural clinics and hospitals to cut taxes for George Soros and Elon Musk."
Looking Ahead to 2028
While the crossover appeal and strong performance in a purple state like Georgia have fueled speculation about a potential 2028 presidential bid, the senator has moved to cool that chatter. During a late-April appearance on MS NOW, Ossoff was direct about his immediate future: "I have zero interest in running for president in 2028. I love serving the state of Georgia. I’ve got two young daughters."
