‘The View’ co-host backs controversial Trump decision despite being political enemies
She's Trump's political nemesis, but she agrees with him on this one.
Despite their long-standing political rivalry, Whoopi Goldberg is setting aside her differences with Donald Trump regarding his controversial plan to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals. The co-host of The View is publicly siding with the president on his choice to catch the action live at Madison Square Garden.
A Shared Passion for the Knicks
While Goldberg and Trump stand on opposite sides of the political aisle, they share a common bond: a love for the New York Knicks. As the team hosts its first Finals appearance since 1999, both figures are planning to take in the atmosphere. Goldberg noted during Monday's broadcast that both Trump and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani are genuine Knicks fans and longtime New Yorkers.
Mayor Mamdani is also confirmed to be in attendance, reportedly securing a standing-room-only ticket for the contest.
Game Day Disruption vs. Championship Mission
The logistics surrounding the visit have drawn significant criticism due to the expected traffic chaos and the cancellation of a nearby fan watch party. However, Goldberg—a New Jersey native and dedicated fan—doesn't believe the noise will affect the team's momentum. The Knicks currently lead the San Antonio Spurs 2-0 and are riding a 13-game postseason win streak.
"There’s nothing either one of them can do to change what’s happening in this city for this team," Goldberg said. "They’re like the Blues Brothers, they’re on a mission from God. You could be buck naked up in the box and ain’t nobody paying attention."
Internal Conflict on the Right
Not everyone in the political sphere is as forgiving as Goldberg. Former Trump supporter Ann Coulter took to social media to blast the decision, labeling it "narcissistic" and pointing to the massive inconvenience for local fans and the burden on taxpayers for extra security.
As previously reported by 205focus.com, Coulter tweeted her frustration on Sunday night, calling the appearance the "absolute worst" of Trump's decisions. Despite the backlash, Trump is expected to watch the game from the luxury box belonging to Knicks owner James Dolan.
