Trump jumps into Alabama Senate race as GOP runoff heats up in final stretch
Trump’s involvement comes after a heated back and forth between Jared Hudson and Barry Moore.
As the Alabama GOP Senate runoff intensifies, President Donald Trump has doubled down on his support for Rep. Barry Moore. The former president, who initially backed the Enterprise Republican in January, took to Truth Social on Friday to reaffirm his endorsement, labeling Moore an “America First Patriot.”
A High-Stakes Endorsement
Trump did not mince words in his latest backing, calling Moore “a good friend, fighter, and WINNER.” He emphasized his “Complete and Total Endorsement,” telling voters that Moore “HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!” For his part, Moore took to X to express that receiving such an endorsement is “there’s no greater honor.”
Policy Clash Escalates
The fresh wave of support from Trump follows a heated back and forth between Moore and his opponent, Jared Hudson. The two Republican candidates have been locked in a tense debate over the SAVE Act and the future of the Senate filibuster.
While Moore stands with Trump and Sen. Tommy Tuberville in support of eliminating the filibuster to push through the legislative agenda, Hudson—a former U.S. Navy SEAL—is taking a different path. Hudson argued against removing the traditional filibuster, warning that doing so would invite Democrats to pack the Supreme Court and grant D.C. statehood if they regain power. Instead, Hudson proposed only eliminating the “silent filibuster,” a maneuver that allows senators to block legislation without debate.
The Final Stretch
With the polls showing a tight contest that leaves the race wide open, according to recent surveys, every move counts. Voters will get a closer look at the candidates during a debate in Montgomery this Monday evening. The final decision rests with Alabama voters on June 16, when the runoff election takes place.
