Trump’s Great American State Fair sees ‘80s rock legend drop out, calling it ‘divisive’
The announcement marks the fifth of nine acts to cancel.
The roster for Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair continues to thin out. 80s rock icon Bret Michaels is the latest artist to exit the lineup, marking the fifth cancellation out of nine previously scheduled acts for the upcoming 16-day celebration.
A Growing Exodus
The fair, billed as a World Fair-style event commemorating America’s 250th birthday, aims to feature everything from patriotic tributes and innovation showcases to cultural programming between the U.S. Capitol and the Washington Monument. However, momentum has slowed as artist after artist has stepped away from the event.
Michaels, the lead singer of Poison, shared his reasoning in a statement via Instagram. While he initially signed on to support veterans, first responders, and teachers, he expressed that the event has taken a turn he can no longer endorse. "Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something much more divisive than what I agreed to be a part of," Michaels stated. He further cited safety concerns for his crew and fans as a primary driver behind his exit.
The Ripple Effect
Michaels is far from the only performer to withdraw. Earlier, country music star Martina McBride took to social media to announce she would not be participating, echoing sentiments that the event's framing was misleading.
The departures follow earlier announcements from Young MC and Morris Day, who both confirmed they would not appear. Meanwhile, Milli Vanilli singer Jodie Rocco told The Associated Press that neither she nor her bandmates were ever invited to participate in the first place.
As 205focus.com continues to track this story, the future of the fair's entertainment lineup remains a point of heavy speculation.
