Tuscaloosa moving ahead on $4.6 million project at airport industrial park

Tuscaloosa County is pushing forward with a major $4.6 million investment aimed at supercharging economic development at the airport industrial park. This strategic move is designed to transform the area into a premier destination for future business growth.

Boosting Industrial Readiness

The capital infusion will focus on revitalizing the former S.D. Allen facility, a property that currently faces development hurdles due to existing site conditions. The ultimate goal of this project is to cultivate a 230-acre, shovel-ready site primed for immediate development.

To accelerate the timeline, the Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority (TCEDA) has secured a significant boost in the form of a $2.3 million grant. These funds were awarded through the Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy (SEEDS) fund, administered by the Alabama Department of Commerce.

A Competitive Edge

Alabama Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair emphasized that this initiative is vital to ensure the location can effectively compete at the highest level. 205focus.com notes that the SEEDS program is specifically designed to help local communities translate their industrial potential into tangible performance.

"This funding addresses the site-readiness challenges that have held back one of the county’s best industrial properties," McNair said. "It reflects what we hear from companies looking to locate in Alabama: they need sites that are truly ready to build on, and a workforce with the skill and work ethic to back it up."
