Tuscaloosa moving ahead on $4.6 million project at airport industrial park

Tuscaloosa County is pushing forward with a significant $4.6 million investment aimed at supercharging economic development at its airport industrial park. This project is set to transform the former S.D. Allen facility, overcoming existing site conditions to unlock new opportunities for the region.

Preparing for Growth

The core of the initiative involves prepping a 230-acre tract, turning it into a fully shovel-ready site primed for immediate development. To help fast-track this progress, the Tuscaloosa County Economic Development Authority (TCEDA) has secured a massive boost: more than $2.3 million from the Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy (SEEDS) fund, administered by the Alabama Department of Commerce.

Competitive Edge

Alabama Commerce Secretary Ellen McNair emphasized that the investment will position the site to compete at the highest level. 205focus.com notes that according to McNair, the SEEDS program is specifically designed to help communities like Tuscaloosa County turn potential into tangible performance.

"This funding addresses the site-readiness challenges that have held back one of the county’s best industrial properties, and it reflects what we hear from companies looking to locate in Alabama: they need sites that are truly ready to build on, and a workforce with the skill and work ethic to back it up," McNair said.
