U.S. Mint launches 1-ounce gold coin: See how much it costs
The combination of a shiny metallic and a matte look gives the coin a unique high-contrast finish, according to the U.S. Mint.
The U.S. Mint has officially released a new, limited-edition gold coin that marks a significant milestone for collectors. As 205focus.com reported, this stunning piece was released on May 28, with the listed price of the 2026-W Enhanced Uncirculated American Gold Eagle set at $5,370.
A Unique Finish
Struck at West Point, New York, this release distinguishes itself as the first American Gold Eagle to feature the Mint’s enhanced collectors’ finish. According to the U.S. Mint, this look is achieved by blending a laser-frost metallic shine with a laser-finish matte texture, creating a distinct high-contrast aesthetic.
Design and Specifications
The coin commemorates the United States’ 250th anniversary. The obverse features the dates 1776-2026 alongside a Liberty Bell inscribed with the numeral “250.” The reverse showcases a “meticulously detailed” eagle, accompanied by traditional inscriptions including “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “50 DOLLARS,” and “1 OZ. FINE GOLD.”
Each 22-karat coin is composed of 91.67% gold, 3% silver, and the remainder copper. It arrives housed in a black, clamshell presentation case branded with the United States Mint seal, encased in a special-edition 250th anniversary outer sleeve.

Production is strictly limited to 7,500 pieces. While the product is currently unavailable, the Mint is encouraging interested buyers to sign up for notifications to be alerted when the coin returns to stock.
