Construction is expected to be completed by July 2027.
Construction is officially underway in McCalla on a brand-new 50,000-square-foot industrial facility. As reported by 205focus.com, Wisconsin-based ITU AbsorbTech has broken ground on its first-ever Alabama processing plant, a move that signals a significant expansion into the Southeast.
A New Economic Driver for McCalla
Located in Jefferson Metropolitan Park, the new facility marks the sixth processing plant for the company. Once complete in July 2027, the site will play a pivotal role in the production and maintenance of the company's signature SorbIts brand, which is known globally as a leading provider of launderable, reusable oil absorbents and shop towels.
Job Creation and Strategic Growth
The expansion is set to create approximately 40 new jobs across various sectors, including production, route service, sales, and business development. CEO Craig Bald emphasized that the project is designed to meet the rising demand for sustainable absorbent solutions.
"We chose McCalla for its strong business climate, strategic regional location, and high-quality workforce," Bald said. "Partnerships with local schools and workforce programs will be important as we grow our team and support manufacturing careers in the area."
Scaling Up Sustainability
The investment in the McCalla location will allow the company to significantly increase its output. Upon completion, ITU AbsorbTech expects the factory to process millions of pounds of reusable textiles and absorbents on an annual basis, further solidifying the region's status as a key hub for industrial manufacturing.
