Alabama-St. John’s super Regional game postponed to Monday with Tide 6 outs from Omaha
Alabama leads St. John’s 7-2 in the eighth inning of a super regional game, six outs from a College World Series berth.
Alabama baseball is just six outs away from ending a 27-year drought. While the team waits to punch its ticket to Omaha, it will have to wait just one more day to secure the win.
Weather Interrupts the Action
Following a grueling weather delay that stretched nearly five hours, the remainder of Sunday's matchup between Alabama and St. John’s was suspended due to poor field conditions. As reported by 205focus.com, the game is set to resume Monday morning at 11 a.m. CT, with Sewell-Thomas Stadium gates opening at 10 a.m. CT.
Tide in Control
Alabama enters the final two innings with a commanding 7-2 lead. The Crimson Tide, who haven't reached the Men’s College World Series since 1999, held a narrow 3-2 advantage before the game opened up in the seventh inning. With two outs, Jason Torres delivered a massive grand slam to right field, blowing the score open.
On the Mound
The pitching duel saw strong performances on both sides before the suspension. Alabama starter Zane Adams dazzled over 6.1 innings, surrendering just six hits and two earned runs while racking up eight strikeouts and zero walks. For St. John’s, Evan Chaffee provided six innings of work, allowing six hits and three earned runs with four strikeouts and no walks.
Originally slated for a 2 p.m. CT start on Sunday, the contest was pushed back to 3 p.m. CT before weather complications forced the suspension. The conclusion of this super regional clash will now shift to Monday's schedule.
