The seven-story facility is scheduled to open in 2028.
A Birmingham construction leader is taking its expertise to South Florida, recently breaking ground on a major $158 million medical project in Miami. Robins & Morton, in collaboration with Thornton Construction, has officially kicked off work on the Helen and Jacob Shaham Academic Medical Center located at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
Facility Details
This ambitious seven-story, 163,000-square-foot facility is designed to blend education with clinical excellence. Once complete, the building will house advanced academic learning spaces alongside a suite of outpatient multi-specialty services, such as diagnostic imaging and same-day surgery.
Partnership and Timeline
The project, designed by architecture firm Stantec, is scheduled to open its doors to patients in 2028. Baptist Health South Florida is set to operate and manage the center upon completion.
Reflecting on the impact of the development, Robins & Morton Operations Manager Johnathan Peavy noted that the center will play a vital role in local healthcare infrastructure. "It will strengthen the pipeline of future physicians and support the long-term health of our South Florida community," Peavy said. "We’re proud to help build a facility that will serve as a hub for education, research, and compassionate care for generations to come."
