Concerts in the Park moved inside, as consistent storms impact Tennessee Valley
The first show was canceled because of heavy rain
The Rocket City summer music scene is feeling the pressure of a soggy start. For the second consecutive week, inclement weather is forcing adjustments to the popular Concerts in the Park series.
Moving Indoors
Monday evening’s highly anticipated performance is shifting from its usual spot at Big Spring Park to the climate-controlled comfort of the Von Braun Center Mark C. Smith Concert Hall. This venue change ensures the show goes on despite the persistent storms that have plagued the Tennessee Valley for the better part of two weeks.
Honoring Our Heroes
This week’s performance carries special significance as part of the Armed Forces Week Celebration. Attendees can look forward to a stellar set from the 26-piece Maneuver Center of Excellence Band out of Fort Benning, who will bring a mix of patriotic anthems and contemporary hits to the stage. This show serves as the second act of the season, following the unfortunate cancellation of the series opener due to heavy rainfall.
Weather Impact Across North Alabama
The region has been battling intense weather, with some areas seeing between 3 and 9 inches of rain on June 7 alone, as reported by the National Weather Service. The downpours have caused significant disruptions, including road closures across Madison County and delayed school openings on Monday morning. While flood watches remain in effect throughout Monday night, organizers are optimistic.
If conditions remain safe, locals are encouraged to head to the Von Braun Center at 6:30 p.m. to join the celebration of our military members and veterans. Stay tuned to 205focus.com for more updates as the summer concert schedule progresses.
