Country music star defends Trump’s Freedom 250: ‘This is patriotism, not politics’
The singer told Pat McAfee, 'F--k all the division."
Country music star Zac Brown is officially stepping up to defend his participation in Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 event. Amid a wave of high-profile acts withdrawing from the celebration, Brown remains steadfast in his commitment to perform the national anthem at the upcoming UFC showcase set to be held on the White House lawn.
Patriotism over Politics
Speaking to The Pat McAfee Show, Brown framed his appearance as a tribute to service members rather than a partisan statement. "Man, I’m here for the troops. I’m here to honor America," Brown said. He emphasized that his focus is purely on the 8,000 active service members expected to be in attendance, adding, "This is patriotism, not politics. F--k all the division. I don’t believe in that."
A self-proclaimed UFC fan, Brown also expressed excitement about the venue itself. "It’s history, man," he told McAfee. "Getting to be a part of American history. Having the first sporting event that’s on the lawn of the White House. It’s an honor."
Event Atmosphere and Recent Departures
The Freedom 250 event has faced significant turbulence recently. Last month, Donald Trump addressed the string of cancellations from various musical acts by labeling them "third rate artists" and vowing to personally lead the rally himself. The 16-day celebration of America’s 250th birthday is slated to feature various patriotic tributes and cultural programming spanning from the U.S. Capitol to the Washington Monument.
Brown’s participation stands in contrast to a growing list of performers who have pulled out of the broader Great American State Fair festivities. Bret Michaels of Poison fame became the fifth act to exit, describing the event as "divisive." Other notable artists, including Martina McBride, Young MC, and Morris Day, have also officially withdrawn. Additionally, Jodie Rocco of Milli Vanilli stated that her group was never approached to perform and will not be appearing.
