Country music legend pulls out of Trump’s Great American State Fair, claims nonpartisan is ‘misleading’
The list of performers pulling out of the event is growing.
Country music star Martina McBride is the latest artist to exit the lineup for Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair. In a recent social media post, McBride clarified that she will no longer perform on June 25, citing that she was misled regarding the nature of the event.
A Growing List of Cancellations
McBride explained on Instagram that she accepted the gig under the impression it was a nonpartisan celebration. After making inquiries and receiving assurances that the event would honor all 50 states, she determined the description was misleading. She is now the latest in a string of artists to pull their support from the 16-day fair, which is organized by the president’s nonprofit, Freedom 250.
The roster of departures continues to grow. Previously, Young MC and Morris Day stepped away from the event. Additionally, Milli Vanilli singer Jodie Rocco noted that neither she nor her band members were ever asked to perform. In similar fashion, C+C Music Factory frontman Freedom Williams stated in an Instagram video that he had no knowledge of the fair’s ties to Trump when he was booked.
Event Scope
The Great American State Fair is designed as a World Fair-style event commemorating America’s 250th birthday. According to event organizers, the celebration is set to span the area from the U.S. Capitol to the Washington Monument, featuring cultural programming, patriotic tributes, and various innovation showcases.
Remaining Schedule
As the lineup faces significant turnover, the event still maintains several scheduled acts:
- Vanilla Ice (June 26): The multi-platinum rapper and icon behind “Ice Ice Baby.”
- Flo Rida (July 2): Known for chart-topping hits including “Low,” “Right Round,” and “Good Feeling.”
- Bret Michaels (July 3): The Poison frontman and rock icon known for tracks like “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” and “Nothin’ But a Good Time.”
