ESPN reporter reacts to criticism for bashing Taylor Swift’s Knicks fandom
ESPN reporter took to social media with a message.
ESPN reporter Monica McNutt offered an apology to Taylor Swift this Thursday after questioning the singer’s Knicks fandom during a heated moment at Game 4 of the NBA Finals. The exchange occurred while Swift was sitting courtside at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, leading McNutt to remark, “get out of here girl.”
Setting the Record Straight
In a video shared by TMZ, McNutt addressed the Swiftie fanbase directly. Acknowledging that she had been proven wrong by photographic evidence of Swift previously wearing an Amar’e Stoudemire jersey alongside Carmelo Anthony, McNutt admitted, “I misspoke. I did not know.”
McNutt explained that because Swift was present with her fiancé, Travis Kelce—who famously supports the Cavs—and wasn't sporting team gear, her loyalty was not immediately apparent. Despite the misunderstanding during the broadcast, where she teased Knicks voice Tyler Murray for snapping a photo of the superstar, McNutt ultimately shouted out the singer, stating, “Shout out to T-Swift.”
A Historic Night at the Garden
Swift was just one of many stars on hand to witness an unforgettable performance by the Knicks. Facing a massive 29-point deficit, New York mounted a stunning 107-106 comeback victory against the San Antonio Spurs.
The improbable win, fueled by 36 points from Jalen Brunson and 33 points from OG Anunoby, moved the Knicks to the brink of their first title since 1973. Anunoby’s game-winning tip-in with 1.2 seconds left gives the team a 3-1 series lead heading into Game 5, which is set for Saturday night in San Antonio.
