Faith Academy hires former St. Paul’s coach to lead boys basketball program
Faith Academy is turning to a coach from a fellow Mobile private school to lead its boys basketball program.
Faith Academy is making a significant move to strengthen its athletics department, tapping into the local coaching pool to lead its boys basketball program. The school has officially hired veteran coach Brandon Garrett, a decision confirmed to 205focus.com by athletic director Michael Meredith on Thursday.
A Proven Leader
Garrett joins the Rams following a seven-season tenure as the head coach at St. Paul’s Episcopal. During his final season there, the Saints posted a 16-11 record, ultimately falling to eventual AHSAA state semifinalist LeFlore in the Class 5A, Area 2 tournament.
In a formal statement, Faith Academy praised Garrett not only for his tactical acumen but for his character-driven approach to coaching. "Coach Garrett brings a relentless work ethic, a deep knowledge of the game, and a proven track record of building successful programs both on and off the court," the school noted. "More importantly, he is a man of outstanding character who loves the Lord and is passionate about mentoring young men to grow in faith, discipline, leadership, and integrity."
The school emphasized that Garrett's influence extends past the hardwood, adding, "His commitment goes far beyond wins and losses. He is dedicated to developing Godly young men who will make a positive impact in their families, schools, and communities."
Building a Legacy
Garrett brings a wealth of experience to the position. A graduate of South Alabama, his resume includes stints as the head coach at Cottage Hill Christian and as an assistant at Baker.
As Garrett steps into his new role, he faces a challenging road ahead. Faith Academy is set to compete over the next two seasons in Double-A Private, Area 1, a competitive district that includes McGill-Toolen, St. Michael Catholic, St. Paul’s, and UMS-Wright.
