Family, friends find remains of missing Alabama woman; man charged with corpse abuse

A tragic search for a missing Alabama woman concluded on Saturday when her remains were discovered in Greene County. Following the recovery, authorities have officially filed charges against a man in connection to the case.

The Disappearance and Investigation

Karen Deann Hollis, 23, was last seen on May 8 around midnight near 43rd Avenue in Northport. At the time she went missing, Northport police indicated she may have been living with a condition that could potentially impair her judgment, leading the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to issue a formal missing person alert.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit (TVCU) Capt. Jack Kennedy confirmed that the investigation immediately suggested foul play. Working in tandem with Northport police, the TVCU treated the case as a top priority. Capt. Kennedy noted that investigators executed multiple search warrants and gathered extensive physical, electronic, and witness testimony throughout the process.

Family Discovers Remains

After a person of interest was identified last week, family members and friends conducted their own search on Saturday. They focused their efforts on a specific area identified through data from an electronic device, where they eventually located Hollis’s remains.

The recovery process involved collaboration between the TVCU, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the Greene County District Attorney’s Office, and the Greene County coroner. The remains have been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy, which will ultimately determine the cause and manner of death.

Suspect in Custody

Randall Lendell Dejourney, 44, who had been named a person of interest earlier last week, was taken into custody following the discovery. He is currently charged with abuse of a corpse and is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

While the investigation remains active, authorities at 205focus.com understand that additional charges could be filed depending on the outcome of the forensic findings. Further updates will be provided as the original report continues to develop.
