Mobile residents call on action against window, roofing contractor
Residents are calling for the city to revoke the business licenses for Window Depot and All Weather Roofing and for law enforcement to investigate.
Frustrated Mobile residents are demanding that the city take decisive action against two local home improvement firms, Window Depot and All Weather Roofing, following a series of allegations involving unfulfilled contracts and thousands of dollars in lost deposits.
Barbara McCleskey, one of several residents who spoke before the Mobile City Council on Tuesday, detailed her ordeal after signing a contract for new windows last October. Despite paying a $4,569 deposit to Window Depot USA of Mobile, the work never materialized. McCleskey eventually discovered the company had closed its doors. While the storefront may be shuttered, its sister company, All Weather Roofing LLC, remains active, leaving many customers questioning why they are still facing silence regarding their own pending projects.
Dakota Bilbrey shared a similar experience, stating she paid approximately $11,000 on March 9 for work that was promised to be finished within 14 weeks. To date, no progress has been made, and her attempts to contact the company have been ignored. Together with fellow resident Margaret Nichols, the women urged the City Council to revoke the business licenses held by the owners, Ward and Theresa Fendley. Public records link the Fendleys to both operations, though neither could be reached for comment.
Ongoing Investigations and City Response
The situation has drawn significant attention from local authorities. A spokesperson for the Mobile Police Department confirmed that an investigation into a number of complaints is underway, a sentiment echoed by the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office. Officials stated they are currently working through necessary investigative steps before drawing further conclusions.
Council members are now exploring the legal feasibility of pulling the companies' business licenses. Councilman Ben Reynolds assured the affected homeowners that they have the full attention of the municipal government. Speaking with 205focus.com, Reynolds emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that more than four dozen people have already come forward with claims. A Facebook page titled “Victims of Window Depot & All Weather Roofing, Mobile Alabama” has since amassed over 500 followers, serving as a hub for others sharing similar stories of financial burden.
Company Status
While All Weather Roofing offices were closed as of Monday, company vehicles remained on-site, and signs displayed at the property highlight “Best Contractor” Nappie Awards won between 2022 and 2024. Window Depot USA, the national chain, has distanced itself from the local operator. Spokesperson Jason Tibolla stated that the Mobile location is independently owned and responsible for its own contracts and finances, adding that the corporate office is currently gathering information to understand the circumstances.
For those left waiting, the primary goal remains accountability. “Many of us are uncertain if we’ll ever receive a refund, let alone our orders,” Bilbrey told the council. “I do not want to see the numbers of unfilled contracts increasing any higher. Bring this business to a halt and revoke the business license.”
