Some parts of Alabama are finally drought-free
Increased rain chances expected this weekend.
The landscape across Alabama is finally showing signs of relief as the latest data confirms continued improvement in drought conditions throughout the state.
Drought-Free Progress
According to the most recent report from the U.S. Drought Monitor, certain regions have officially climbed out of drought status. Compiled on Tuesday and released on Thursday, the data highlights that areas in north and north-central Alabama are now considered entirely drought-free.
While Level 1 drought conditions still linger across portions of south and east Alabama, the situation represents a significant turnaround. Just two weeks ago, those same regions were grappling with Level 3 out of 4 drought conditions.
Rainfall Outlook
The trend toward wetter conditions looks to continue, with increased rain chances forecasted for this weekend. The National Weather Service outlook, which extends through May 11, suggests a healthy dose of moisture is on the way for much of the state.
North and central Alabama could see up to 2 inches of additional rainfall if the current forecast holds steady. While South Alabama is expected to receive slightly less precipitation, ranging from a few hundredths of an inch up to 1.75 inches, the incoming rain will be a welcome sight for the region.
