Severe weather swept through north Alabama on Monday afternoon, leaving thousands in the dark and creating hazardous conditions across Morgan and Limestone counties.

Power Outages Reported

As the storms pushed through the region, utility providers reported widespread outages. According to figures from 2:30 p.m., Decatur Utilities was dealing with 4,288 customers without power, while the Joe Wheeler Electrical Co-Op reported 4,594 outages. Additionally, Hartselle saw 1,100 customers lose power during the event.

Roadway Hazards and Safety Warnings

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning regarding numerous roadway hazards caused by downed trees and power lines. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution. If you encounter a traffic signal that is out of service, officials remind you to treat the intersection as a four-way stop. Most importantly, do not attempt to move or touch downed power lines.

Damage in Limestone County

Storm damage extended into Limestone County, where officials confirmed multiple trees were downed near the intersection of Highway 72 and Cox Road.
