Trump’s approval rating climbing, but Republicans are turning on him on this issue, poll finds
His overall approval rating stands at 37%, according to the latest AP-NORC poll.
President Donald Trump has seen a slight uptick in his overall approval rating, though new data reveals a growing rift within his own party regarding his economic management. According to the latest Associated Press-NORC poll, the president’s approval now sits at 37%, a four-point increase from the 33% recorded last month. Despite this modest gain, 63% of respondents continue to disapprove of his performance overall.
Economic concerns persist
While Trump successfully campaigned on economic strength in 2024, the issue has become a persistent liability during his second term. Approval for his handling of the economy has dropped to roughly one in three, down nearly 10 percentage points from the 40% he enjoyed at the start of his tenure. Notably, the president is losing his grip on his base; only 63% of Republicans now approve of his economic strategy, marking a significant 16% decline since February, just before the onset of the Iran war.
Immigration gains drive rebound
The president’s overall rebound is largely attributed to his performance on immigration, which remains one of his most reliable issues. After approval for his handling of the border fell to 38% in January and February—a dip fueled by the deaths of two U.S. citizens during ICE protests in Minneapolis—he has seen a resurgence. Currently, 45% of U.S. adults approve of his immigration policies. Within the Republican party, support is even more robust, with 8 in 10 GOP respondents voicing approval, outpacing his general presidential approval rating by roughly 10 percentage points.
