University of Alabama appoints new chief academic officer
Reid has served multiple roles at the University of Alabama and has a background in criminology.
The University of Alabama has officially elevated its interim provost to a permanent role, solidifying its top academic leadership position.

Lesley Reid, who has served as the university’s interim provost since November 2025, has been tapped to take on the position full-time. As the institution’s chief academic officer, Reid will continue to serve as a vital member of the executive leadership team.

A Background in Criminology
Reid is no stranger to leadership within the UA system. Her previous roles include serving as the interim dean for the School of Social Work from 2019 to 2021, as well as holding positions as the senior associate provost for academic and administrative affairs and associate provost for faculty affairs.
