$2.6 million in funding secured for Huntsville hospital, Rep. Dale Strong says

U.S. Rep. Dale Strong, R-Monrovia, has announced a major win for regional healthcare, securing nearly $2.6 million in federal funding for the Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children. The investment, sourced from the FY26 Homeland Appropriations Bill, is specifically earmarked to provide critical backup power infrastructure for the facility.

Boosting Emergency Preparedness

The infusion of funds is designed to enhance system redundancy, ensuring that the hospital remains fully operational during severe weather or unexpected power failures. As North Alabama’s primary pediatric referral center, the hospital provides specialized medical services to critically ill infants, children, and mothers throughout the Tennessee Valley and southern Tennessee.

Given its status as critical infrastructure according to FEMA, the hospital requires robust power solutions to maintain care in the Pediatric Emergency Department, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and the Regional Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

A Priority for Safety

Representative Strong, who brings decades of experience as a firefighter and EMT to his role, recently toured the hospital to witness the NICU operations firsthand. He emphasized that for the most vulnerable patients, even a minor interruption in power is not an option. "This funding will help ensure the hospital can continue to care for our most vulnerable patients when they need it most, no matter the circumstances," Strong said.

Tracy Doughty, president and chief operating officer of Huntsville Hospital, echoed this sentiment, noting that the upgrade is essential for maintaining a high standard of care. "A reliable, modern generator is critical to ensuring continuity of care for newborns, children and women across North Alabama, even in the face of disaster or power disruption," Doughty stated.

This grant contributes to a larger effort by Representative Strong, who has successfully secured nearly $36 million in FY26 Community Project Funding to support the Fifth District. For more updates on local developments, continue following 205focus.com.
