A few severe storms possible Saturday in parts of Alabama

Forecasters have issued a Level 1 risk for severe storms across portions of Alabama this Saturday. According to the latest update from the Storm Prediction Center, sections of west Alabama and a sliver of the eastern part of the state are included in this 1-out-of-5 risk category.

Storm Expectations

While a Level 1 risk indicates only isolated severe activity, residents should remain alert. The primary concern is the potential for damaging wind gusts in any stronger cells that develop. Fortunately, unlike the conditions experienced on Friday, forecasters do not anticipate any tornado activity for Saturday.

The Extended Forecast

Rain and storm chances are expected to persist across the state through the remainder of the weekend and well into next week. While severe weather is not currently in the cards beyond today, the National Weather Service in Huntsville is monitoring a low chance for a few stronger storms in northern Alabama on Monday.

Surveying Recent Damage

Meteorologists are still working to assess damage from recent events. The National Weather Service in Birmingham confirmed that an EF1 tornado touched down in Tuscaloosa County on Friday. Additional survey crews were scheduled to be in the field Saturday, investigating areas near Holly Pond and Baileyton in Cullman County, as well as a separate site in Marengo County. Official details on those surveys are expected to be released throughout the weekend. Keep checking back with 205focus.com for the latest updates.
