Alabama baseball learns NCAA regional opponents, seeding
Alabama baseball could host an NCAA tournament Super Regional for the first time since 2006.
The path to Omaha is set for Alabama baseball. After securing hosting duties for the NCAA tournament’s Tuscaloosa Regional, the Crimson Tide are ready to kick off their postseason run this Friday.
Opening Matchup
Alabama (37-19, 18-12 SEC) draws Alabama State for its opening game. The Hornets punched their ticket by winning the SWAC tournament on Sunday, defeating Florida A&M 8-6 at Rickwood Field. While the Tide enters as an at-large team, they have recent experience against their opening-round opponents; Alabama secured a narrow 2-1 victory over the Hornets back in February.
The Tuscaloosa Regional Field
Joining Alabama and Alabama State in Tuscaloosa are Oklahoma State and USC Upstate. The Cowboys enter the tournament with a 37-20 record after a 18-12 campaign in the Big 12, while the Spartans arrive as Big South champions following their 8-1 win over Longwood.
Historical Stakes
As the No. 7 overall seed in the NCAA tournament, Alabama has an opportunity to achieve a milestone that has eluded the program since 2006: hosting a Super Regional in Tuscaloosa. This postseason appearance also marks a significant streak, as the Crimson Tide has qualified for the NCAA tournament in four consecutive seasons—the team's longest such run since 2008-11.
Turning the Page
The Tide looks to regain its momentum following an early exit from the SEC tournament in Hoover. As the No. 4 seed, Alabama suffered a 13-3 loss to Florida, which eventually fell to tournament champion Georgia. With that behind them, Alabama is focused on a fresh start at home.
