Alabama high school baseball: Hubbertville, Hewitt-Trussville complete field for state finals

The path to the AHSAA state baseball finals is officially set. Following a thrilling weekend of semifinal action, Hewitt-Trussville and Hubbertville have punched their tickets to Oxford to compete for state titles.

Hewitt-Trussville punches Class 7A ticket

No. 2 Hewitt-Trussville secured its spot in the Class 7A championship series on Saturday night, defeating ninth-ranked Thompson 7-1 in a decisive Game 3. Senior pitcher Cale McIntosh proved to be the anchor for the Huskies (32-9), expertly navigating a pair of bases-loaded jams early in the contest.

Thompson (27-19) threatened immediately, loading the bases with no outs in the first inning, but came up empty. They returned to the doorstep in the fourth inning with one out, but again, could not convert. Huskies coach Jeff Mauldin praised McIntosh’s poise, noting that his ability to escape those early pressures shifted the game's momentum entirely in Hewitt-Trussville's favor.

McIntosh finished his night with eight strikeouts over six-plus innings, allowing four hits and one run before hitting the AHSAA pitch count limit in the seventh. Rylan Clark stepped in to record the final two outs.

Offensively, Andrew Walker fueled the Huskies with a 2-for-4 performance featuring two doubles and an RBI. T Alfano also went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while B Bales added a perfect 2-for-2 line. The victory sets up a championship showdown against No. 5 Auburn, which begins Thursday at 2 p.m. in Oxford. This marks the Huskies' first title series appearance since 2022.
