Alabama meteorologist leaving for New Orleans TV station: ‘Birmingham, it’s been real’

A familiar face is moving on from the Birmingham television scene. Jordan West, a meteorologist at WVTM 13, announced this week that his tenure with the station is coming to an end.

A New Chapter in New Orleans

West, who joined the WVTM 13 team in 2024, confirmed that this Friday will be his final day. He is slated to head to New Orleans, where he will continue his career at WDSU—a sister station to WVTM 13—starting June 15.

Reflecting on Time in Alabama

During his two-year stint in central Alabama, West became a staple for viewers during both fair weather and high-stakes severe weather events. Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, West noted the support he received from his colleagues and the local community.

"For the last two years, it has been an absolute honor tracking storms and breaking down central Alabama’s active weather for you," West said. "From long nights covering severe weather to beautiful, sunny afternoons, thank you for trusting me and welcoming me into your homes."

From Mobile to the Big Easy

West’s journey in meteorology began in his home state of Alabama; he grew up in Mobile and earned his degree from the University of South Alabama. Before his time in Birmingham, he served as a weekend meteorologist in Macon, Georgia.

While he looks forward to his new position in New Orleans, West emphasized that his connection to the state remains strong. "While I am thrilled for this next adventure, a piece of my heart will always stay right here in Alabama," he shared. "Birmingham, it’s been real. New Orleans, I’ll see you soon!"
