Alabama native Jeff Brantley to enter College Baseball Hall of Fame
He will be inducted during the Night of Champions ceremony on Feb. 11, 2027, in Overland Park, Kansas.
The College Baseball Foundation has officially unveiled its 2026 Hall of Fame class, and an Alabama baseball legend is among the group. Mississippi State standout and Hoover product Jeff Brantley headlines the 19th class of inductees, receiving the prestigious honor for a collegiate career that stands as one of the most dominant in SEC history.
A Storied Path to Greatness
Brantley was born in Florence and raised in Hoover, eventually leading W.A. Berry High School to a Class 4A state title in 1981. He took his talents to Starkville, where he played for the Bulldogs from 1982 to 1985 and cemented his legacy as a titan of the Southeastern Conference.
Dominance on the Diamond
Brantley’s collegiate statistics are staggering. He holds the SEC record for wins with a 45-12 career mark and remains a fixture in the Mississippi State record books. His 73 appearances, 63 starts, and 427 innings pitched stand as program benchmarks, while his 364 strikeouts rank second all-time for the Bulldogs.
His 1985 campaign was nothing short of legendary. Brantley shattered single-season school records with 18 wins and 145.2 innings pitched, boasting a 2.29 ERA and 136 strikeouts. That powerhouse performance earned him consensus first-team All-American honors and helped carry Mississippi State to a third-place finish in the College World Series.
Professional Success and Induction
Following his collegiate success, Brantley was drafted in the sixth round of the 1985 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants. He enjoyed a prolific 14-year professional career across several clubs, including the Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Texas Rangers. A 1990 MLB All-Star, Brantley famously led the National League with 44 saves in 1996, taking home the Rolaids Relief Man Award.
Today, Brantley remains a staple in the baseball world, serving as a broadcaster for the Cincinnati Reds, a role he has held since 2006. He will be formally enshrined during the Night of Champions ceremony on Feb. 11, 2027, in Overland Park, Kansas.
