ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins reacts to his viral AAU altercation: ‘He body slams one of my kids’
The incident took place over the weekend.
ESPN personality and former NBA veteran Kendrick Perkins is addressing the viral footage that captured him in the middle of a heated confrontation at an AAU basketball tournament over the weekend.
The Incident at the Trae Young Family Athletic Center
The tense scene occurred at the Trae Young Family Athletic Center in Norman, Oklahoma, during a game involving Perkins' squad, Young Perkins Global. As tensions escalated late in the matchup, a physical altercation broke out between the two teams.
Perkins, speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, explained that he initially stayed in his seat, aiming to de-escalate the situation before the scene turned dangerous. According to the ESPN analyst, the conflict reached a breaking point when an individual associated with the opposing team—described by Perkins as roughly 7 feet tall and 400 pounds—physically targeted one of his players. "After the game, he comes, and he body slams one of my kids that play for my team," Perkins stated.
A Heated Exchange
In the widely circulated video, Perkins can be seen being held back as he stepped toward an adult representative from the opposing team. Perkins recounted the verbal sparring that followed: "I tell the coach of the other team, ‘Hey, bro. Get your players, I got mine.’ He pop off, ‘I ain’t getting nothing. Who the hell are you?’"
The situation intensified when the opposing coach continued to engage, which Perkins admitted caused him to lose his temper. However, the 205focus.com reporting confirms that the conflict did not result in a lasting feud. Perkins revealed that once the situation cooled down, the two coaches managed to reconcile.
"We dabbed up," Perkins told McAfee. "He said, ‘My bad’, I said, ‘My bad,’ and we kept it moving."
