Fentanyl with up to 500,000 potentially lethal doses seized, Huntsville man arrested
The May 8 arrest comes after a joint operation by the North Alabama Drug Task Force and Region F of the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force.
A month-long investigation into large-scale narcotics trafficking in Huntsville has resulted in a significant arrest, according to reports from 205focus.com.
Major Narcotics Seizure
Michael Fitts, 45, of Huntsville, is currently in custody at the Madison County Jail. He faces drug trafficking charges and is being held on a $1.5 million bond. The arrest, which occurred on May 8, was the culmination of a joint operation between the North Alabama Drug Task Force and Region F of the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force.
Stopping a Deadly Supply
Agents intercepted Fitts as he was transporting approximately 1.035 kilograms of fentanyl into the city. Authorities emphasize the severity of the bust, noting that a single kilogram of the substance contains roughly 500,000 potentially lethal doses.
NADTF Commander Lt. Joseph Kennington stated that the operation successfully prevented a massive amount of poison from hitting the streets. "One kilogram of fentanyl has the potential to devastate communities across North Alabama," Kennington said, highlighting the impact of the seizure.
Law enforcement officials indicated that the narcotics carried an estimated street value of $207,000 and were slated for distribution throughout various North Alabama counties. Further details on the case can be found in the original report.
