If you bought this popular $80 Walmart dresser, stop using it immediately and get your money back
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says 165,000 Mainstays fabric dressers pose serious tip-over risks that could cause severe injuries or death to children.
If you have recently purchased a fabric dresser from Walmart, you need to check your furniture immediately. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, about 165,000 Mainstays 9-Drawer Fabric Dressers have been recalled due to a serious risk of injury or death.
Why the recall was issued
The primary concern is a severe tip-over and entrapment hazard. These dressers fail to meet the mandatory safety standards for clothing storage units established by the STURDY Act. If the units are not securely anchored to a wall, they pose a significant danger to children, as they can easily tip over.
Identifying the affected units
The recall affects Mainstays brand dressers featuring a black metal frame and nine fabric drawers equipped with either black or brown handles. The unit dimensions are 40 inches long, 13.75 inches wide, and 45 inches tall. These products were available for approximately $80 at Walmart locations nationwide and through Walmart.com between September 2023 and March 2026.
Next steps for consumers
If you own one of these dressers, stop using it right away, particularly if it is not currently anchored to the wall. Store the item in an area that is inaccessible to children.
