New general takes command of Redstone Arsenal’s $327 billion USASAC mission
Change of command ceremony held Monday.
Leadership has officially transitioned at Redstone Arsenal as Brig. Gen. Jason Jefferis took command of the U.S. Army Security Assistance Command (USASAC) during a change of command ceremony held Monday on the Army Materiel Command Parade Field.
A Tradition of Leadership
Lt. Gen. Christopher Mohan, commanding general of AMC, presided over the ceremony, facilitating the transfer of the USASAC colors from outgoing commander Brig. Gen. Allen Pepper to Jefferis. This traditional passing of the colors marks the official shift of authority and responsibility for the command.
During the event, Mohan praised the USASAC team for their critical role in building international partnerships. He commended Pepper for his leadership and extended a warm welcome to Jefferis as he steps into his new role.
New Leadership Takes the Helm
Expressing his commitment to the mission, Jefferis described himself as a bridge-builder for the organization. "I am humbled to join a world-class team of experts that has spent decades mastering the intricate world of foreign military sales and security cooperation," Jefferis said. "Having seen the impact of your collective efforts from an operational standpoint, I have a deep appreciation of just how critical this mission is."
Drawing on his operational experiences in Afghanistan, Iraq, and around the globe, Jefferis emphasized the importance of ensuring allies are properly equipped and trained. "I will bring every ounce of my energy to support you as we support our allies, because their security is our shared success," he added.
Celebrating Record Success
Mohan highlighted the remarkable growth USASAC experienced under Pepper’s tenure, noting a record-breaking $42.8 billion in new business during 2024 alone. These efforts included $34 billion in modernization for European partners, $11 billion toward INDOPACOM deterrence, and significant missile defense and armored improvements across the Middle East.
Pepper expressed his gratitude to the workforce and his family, reflecting on the significance of his time in command. "I can assure you that it has been a tremendous blessing for me to have had the opportunity to command USASAC," Pepper stated, noting that foreign military sales remain a cornerstone of national foreign and defense policy.
