Pizza for breakfast, are you crazy? Not if you drop by Casey’s.

David Holloway's search for great Gas Station Grub takes him to America's third-largest convenience store chain, which is now moving into Alabama.

Pizza for breakfast, are you crazy? Not if you drop by Casey’s.

As I continue my quest to identify the best gas station food across the region, I have discovered a new contender that specializes in an unlikely but delicious combination: breakfast on a pizza.

Casey’s Brings the Midwest to Alabama

Casey’s General Stores, a popular chain with deep roots in the Midwest, is making a major move into Alabama. By acquiring the CEFCO chain and converting several local locations, Casey’s is bringing its famous reputation for convenience store dining to our area.

For those unacquainted with the chain, food is the main attraction, and their pizza holds a legendary status among a loyal following. Curious to see if the hype was real, I visited a local station on a rainy Monday morning to sample the menu.

Breakfast Pizza and Beyond

The Casey’s website showcases a variety of breakfast pizzas, including sausage, bacon, chorizo, and veggie, with options to customize your pie. Beyond the pizza, the menu features chicken biscuits, biscuits and gravy, breakfast scramble bowls, and a selection of protein-packed burritos.

The store operates with an efficient, Midwest-style workflow: prepared items are kept in a rotating display case, allowing for a quick grab-and-go experience.

During a previous visit, I sampled their loaded breakfast burrito—a satisfying mix of fluffy eggs, ham, and cheese. However, my primary mission was the pizza. I picked up four slices, opting for bacon and sausage, along with a chicken biscuit. The entire haul came to just over seven dollars, thanks to a grand opening special.

The Verdict

Both the sausage and bacon breakfast pizzas were loaded with scrambled eggs and plenty of cheese. While the sausage version provided a heartier bite, the bacon pizza offered a more robust flavor profile. I found the concept of breakfast pizza to be a natural winner, packing all the protein and carbohydrates needed to jumpstart the day.

The chicken biscuit, while perfectly serviceable, felt a bit ordinary compared to the unique draw of the breakfast pizza.

A Competitive Landscape

With major players like Buc-ee’s and Wawa also vying for market share, the convenience food scene is increasingly crowded. While I maintain a personal weakness for a Buc-ee’s brisket sandwich or a Wawa Philly cheesesteak, Casey’s has firmly staked its claim as the premier spot for breakfast pizza. If you can move past your initial skepticism, you might find that this unconventional breakfast is exactly what your morning routine needs.

Casey’s also maintains a full lunch menu featuring burgers, tacos, salads, wraps, and sliders to keep you fueled throughout the rest of the day.
