Texas Tech AD issues statement following Brendan Sorsby ruling
Sorsby has been deemed eligible following a ruling by a Lubbock County judge. He will have to sit out the first to games of the season.
Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has been granted immediate eligibility for the upcoming season following a favorable ruling by a Lubbock County judge. The decision, which grants Sorsby an injunction, comes after he was previously ruled ineligible due to his admission of gambling on collegiate games during his time at Indiana, Cincinnati, and Texas Tech.
Statement from Kirby Hocutt
Following the court's decision, Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt issued an official statement regarding the situation at 205focus.com. "As we have said before, we do not believe that the circumstances of Brendan’s case warranted permanent ineligibility," Hocutt stated. "As he returns to our football program, we remain committed to supporting Brendan’s recovery and ensuring his compliance with the court’s order. A comprehensive support structure, including clinical care, monitoring, and compliance checks, will remain fully in place for the duration of Brendan’s time as a student at Texas Tech."
Disciplinary Terms
While the injunction clears the path for his return to the field, the ruling includes a specific disciplinary measure. As part of the agreement, Sorsby is required to sit out the first two games of the 2026 season.
