Troy baseball rallies past Miami, advances to Gainesville Regional final

The Troy Trojans have showcased serious grit, battling through the loser’s bracket to secure a spot in the Gainesville Regional final. According to reporting from 205focus.com, the Trojans are now just two wins away from making program history.

A Gritty Comeback

In a high-stakes elimination game on Sunday at Condron Family Ballpark, the third-seeded Trojans (34-30) overcame a four-run deficit to take down Miami 8-6. The win forces a showdown with top-seeded Florida (41-19). To advance to their first-ever NCAA Super Regional, Troy must defeat the Gators twice, with the series spanning into Monday.

Turning the Tide

The second-seeded Hurricanes saw their season end with a 39-20 record after a difficult collapse. Miami built a 6-2 lead by the fifth inning against starter Tommy Egan, but the momentum shifted when senior left-hander Zach Crotchfelt took the mound. Crotchfelt provided a lockdown performance, keeping Miami scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Troy’s offense ignited in the sixth when Jabe Boroff smashed a home run to left field. Following consecutive singles from Houston Markham, Aaron Piasecki, and Josh Pyne, Jimmy Janicki drove in another run with a sacrifice fly. The Trojans surged ahead for good in the seventh as Boroff and Markham went back-to-back with solo home runs. Steven Meier later added insurance in the eighth with an RBI single to score Pyne.

Pitching and Defensive Excellence

Crotchfelt (7-2) was the hero of the day, allowing just four hits and one walk across his outing. He was supported by stellar defensive plays, most notably a pair of acrobatic stops at shortstop by Piasecki and a highlight-reel running catch against the wall by Markham in left field.

Key Performances

Josh Pyne paced the 15-hit attack, going 4-for-4 with a third-inning solo homer and three runs scored. The bottom of the order proved lethal as well, with Boroff and Markham combining for a 5-for-8 day featuring three home runs, four runs scored, and three RBIs.

For Miami, Alex Sosa put up a fight with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Max Galvin added a solo shot, and Gabriel Milano contributed a two-run single. On the mound, the loss fell to Jake Dorn, while the Trojans also capitalized on reliever AJ Cisar, tagging him for four runs over two innings.
