Trump might not attend his son’s wedding: ‘I have a thing called Iran’
“If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend I get killed -- by the fake news, of course."
President Donald Trump has cast doubt on his attendance at his eldest son's upcoming wedding, citing an intense schedule that leaves little room for personal events.
A High-Profile Wedding
Donald Trump Jr., 48, is slated to marry 39-year-old Bettina Anderson over Memorial Day weekend. According to a New York Post report, the couple has opted for a private, intimate celebration on a secluded island in the Bahamas.
While the president noted that his son would like him to be present, he remained noncommittal during remarks to reporters on Thursday. "It’s gonna be just a small little private affair and I’m gonna try and make it," the president stated.
The 'Iran' Factor
The commander-in-chief suggested that his responsibilities in the White House are taking precedence. "I said, ‘You know, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things,’" Trump explained.
Trump framed the decision as a potential political trap regardless of the outcome. "If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend I get killed -- by the fake news, of course," he remarked. Despite the uncertainty, the president confirmed he has known Anderson for a long time and extended his best wishes, adding, "Hopefully they’re gonna have a great marriage."
Critics Weigh In
The prospect of the president potentially missing his son's nuptials drew swift pushback from critics. Alex Cole tweeted his disapproval, noting, "The guy found time for 300 golf outings, but attending his son’s wedding requires careful consideration."
Fox News co-host Jessica Tarlov also criticized the situation, writing, "There would surely be time to go to his son’s wedding and manipulate the oil markets. It is a long weekend after all."
