What will Alabama’s weather be like in June? Here’s one outlook

June has officially arrived, marking the start of meteorological summer across the state. While we all know an Alabama summer brings the heat, there is some encouraging news in the latest forecast from the NOAA Climate Prediction Center.

Temperatures: A Balanced Outlook

Forecasters are not predicting a solid month of blistering, above-average heat. Instead, the latest outlook shows equal chances for both above-average and below-average temperatures for Alabama throughout June. This balanced forecast extends across the entire Southeast, with the notable exception of Florida.

More Rain Expected

If you have been hoping for a reprieve from the dry conditions, the outlook is promising. The precipitation forecast leans toward higher-than-average rainfall for much of the state:

  • Southern Alabama: A 40-50 percent probability of above-average rainfall.
  • Central and most of Northern Alabama: A 33-40 percent probability of above-average rainfall.
  • Extreme North Alabama: Equal chances for above-average or below-average precipitation.

Summer Milestones

While meteorological summer is officially underway, many Alabamians look toward the astronomical start of the season. The summer solstice—often celebrated as the longest day of the year due to the extended daylight—falls on Sunday, June 21.

Looking further ahead, meteorological fall is slated to begin September 1, though it rarely feels like it this far south. Astronomical fall will follow shortly after on September 22 with the fall equinox.
