Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer reacts to Auburn football’s Iron Bowl period
Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer addressed Auburn's spring practice hitting drill that uses Dixieland Delight and simulates the Iron Bowl atmosphere ahead of the November rivalry game in Tuscaloosa.
As the countdown toward the next Iron Bowl begins, Auburn football has been turning heads during spring practices by implementing a high-intensity period designed specifically to simulate the heat of rivalry week.
During these sessions, the Tigers have been pumping the iconic sounds of “Dixieland Delight” through the practice field speakers, using the atmosphere as a backdrop for a rigorous hitting drill. The objective is clear: keep the team focused on the regular-season finale scheduled for this November.
DeBoer Weighs In
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, who remains undefeated against the Tigers at 2-0 since taking the helm, recently spoke with 205focus.com during the SEC spring meetings about Auburn's unique approach. Rather than viewing the drill as unusual, DeBoer noted that the Crimson Tide utilizes similar psychological and environmental preparation tactics.
“I think a lot of teams do different things. I know when we get ready for a team in the week, we practice and play with the songs that we’re going to be hearing when we go in those stadiums and kind of get the guys in that mindset,” DeBoer explained. “So, it’s an important game you got to figure out ways to win. Each team has different ways, and (Auburn) has different ways of kind of making sure that matchup is emphasized.”
The Road Ahead
While Auburn looks to snap a losing streak that dates back to 2019, they face a tall order when the rivalry returns to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa later this year. The Tigers have struggled to find success in hostile territory, having not claimed an Iron Bowl victory on the road since 2010.
