Country music legends to headline new festival in Alabama: ‘We uplift people’

Birmingham is preparing to host a major new musical event this summer as the Field & Stage Music Fest makes its debut. The festival is set to take over the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) from July 17-19, utilizing the 17,000-capacity Legacy Arena for three nights of live performances.

A Triple-Threat Lineup

The Oak Ridge Boys have been confirmed to anchor the opening night on Friday, July 17. The iconic country and gospel vocal group will bring their legendary catalog, including hits like “Elvira,” “Bobbie Sue,” and “I’ll Be True to You,” to the Legacy Arena stage. The momentum continues on Saturday, July 18, with ACM winner Jake Owen, followed by the Eli Young Band on Sunday, July 19.

Festival Details

The Field & Stage Music Fest is strategically scheduled alongside the World Deer Expo, which will occupy the BJCC Exhibition Halls throughout the weekend. Festival doors open daily at 6:30 p.m., with music beginning at 7:30 p.m. Organizers noted that this dual-event approach aims to provide the nighttime concert experience that Birmingham fans have been requesting for years.

Tickets are currently available via Ticketmaster, with prices ranging from $97.65 to $121.35 per day. Attendees will receive a bonus: each concert ticket includes two free passes to the World Deer Expo, according to the Expo’s official website.

Legacy of the Oaks

For the Oak Ridge Boys, the Birmingham appearance is another chapter in a storied career that spans decades. The group is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, boasting five Grammy Awards and multiple Grand Ole Opry inductions.

The current lineup features longtime members Duane Allen, Richard Sterban, and Alabama native William Lee Golden, joined by Ben James. The group remains committed to their core mission, as articulated in a 2020 interview with AARP: “I believe we uplift people with a good, clean, wholesome American show.” Following the Birmingham festival, the group will head to Nashville to participate in the Opry 100 centennial celebration, with shows scheduled for May 29-30.
