Dominant pitcher Addie Edwards named ASWA Community College Athlete of Year

Addie Edwards didn't just make an impression during her debut season with the Northeast Alabama Community College softball team; she completely dominated. The freshman phenom from Chatsworth, Georgia, cemented her status as a collegiate force, carrying the Mustangs to both an Alabama Community College Conference championship and an NJCAA Division I national title.

A Historic Performance

Edwards’ statistical output was nothing short of legendary. She finished the season with a perfect 34-0 record, posting a stellar 1.12 ERA across 211.2 innings. Over the course of 38 appearances, she struck out 219 batters, walked only 35, and recorded three saves. Her durability was equally impressive, as she pitched every single inning during the Mustangs' national championship tournament run, where she was rightfully named the tournament's MVP.

Accolades and Recognition

Following her ACCC Pitcher of the Year honors, Edwards has been named the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) Community College Athlete of the Year. She is set to receive the prestigious award this Sunday at the annual ASWA banquet held at Jacksonville State University.

"Addie put together one of the best seasons in junior college history," said Northeast head coach Joe Guthrie. "She’s one of the most mentally tough pitchers I’ve ever seen."

Fueling the Future

Reflecting on her journey from high school at Heritage High School to national champion, Edwards credits her team's collective drive and her own endurance for the breakout year. "Knowing that I helped do it for the sophomores, it just felt great," Edwards said. "We worked so hard in our practices, and we took each game one at a time."

Despite the immense workload, Edwards maintained her focus throughout the postseason tournament, where she logged 33 innings, struck out 27, and threw 493 pitches. "I never really got tired until the games were over," she noted. "I just knew I had to push through."

For Edwards, the award serves as a powerful reminder of her growth as an athlete. "It means a lot, especially knowing that my little self would be so proud of me," she added. "For a while there when I was beginning as a pitcher, nobody really believed in me because I was tiny and I used to have a really bad attitude. It just feels great knowing that I got this award."

This weekend’s ASWA annual convention is presented by ALFA Insurance, the Mobile Sports Authority, the Panini Senior Bowl, the Paul W.
