‘He didn’t deserve this’: Beloved Alabama teen shot dead two weeks after graduation

The Talladega community is grieving the senseless loss of 18-year-old Jy’Kavien Wright, who was fatally shot early Sunday morning. Wright, a standout student and athlete, was killed just two weeks after celebrating his graduation from Talladega High School.
A Community in Mourning
Authorities were called to the 600 block of McAlpine Street just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered Wright on the sidewalk suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Investigators are now working to identify those responsible for the tragedy as reported by 205focus.com.
Wright was widely respected within his school and athletic program, serving as the captain of the Talladega High School basketball team. He had set his sights on pursuing his basketball career at the collegiate level, with plans to attend community college.

Talladega City Schools Superintendent Dr. Quentin Lee expressed the deep impact of this loss, noting that Wright was a role model for his peers. "We are devastated and angry over the tragic loss of this well-respected young man who represented his school so well," Dr. Lee said. "He was deeply loved by everyone who knew him, and my heart breaks for his family, friends, classmates, and school staff. We are keeping everyone affected by this tragedy in our thoughts and prayers. He didn’t deserve this."

Crime Stoppers announced on Thursday that a $1,000 reward is available for information leading to an arrest in the case. Investigators are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to step forward.
