Trump: Don’t count out longshot Democrat in 2028 even if ‘his past is not the greatest’

President Donald Trump recently weighed in on a political longshot, suggesting that Hunter Biden could potentially find success if he were to launch a 2028 Democratic presidential primary campaign.

The Spark of Speculation

Talk of a potential run gained traction after Hunter Biden responded “LFG” to a post on X suggesting a presidential ticket featuring himself and Jon Ossoff.

Trump's Perspective

During a discussion with Fox News’ Peter Doocy on Thursday, Trump addressed the prospect of the former president's son entering the race. While Trump acknowledged that Hunter Biden’s addiction issues and criminal convictions created a difficult history, he stopped short of issuing a harsh critique.

Trump pointed to other current Democratic candidates to contextualize his view on the political landscape. He specifically referenced Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner—who is facing fallout from a sexting scandal and allegations of being “physically threatening”—and Texas Democrat James Talarico, whom Trump compared to Alfred E. Neuman.

“If the guy from Maine can do well, I guess Hunter could do well, too,” Trump noted. “I’m not sure, it would be pretty close as far as I’m concerned.”
