UFL Week 10 roundup: Playoff pairings set
Four teams will have the opportunity to win the third United Football League championship.
The regular season has come to a close, and the road to the United Bowl is officially paved. Following the final weekend of action, 13 players with ties to Alabama high schools and colleges have advanced to the United Football League playoffs.
Postseason Pairings Set
The championship bracket is locked in for a high-stakes Sunday of semifinal action. The top-seeded Orlando Storm (8-2) are set to clash with the fourth-seeded DC Defenders (5-5) at 2 p.m. CDT at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. This marks the third consecutive meeting between the two clubs, with Orlando taking both previous encounters. Because Orlando’s home venue, Inter&Co Stadium, is unavailable, the match will be held in Ohio. ABC will handle the broadcast.
Later that evening, the second-seeded St. Louis Battlehawks (6-4) host third-seeded Louisville (6-4) at 5 p.m. at the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis. FOX will televise the contest. The winners of these two matchups will meet in the United Bowl on June 13 at Audi Field in Washington.
Week 10 Highlights
Former McGill-Toolen standout Eric Garror made a massive impression in the regular-season finale. Garror intercepted a pass on the first snap of the game and returned it 28 yards for a score, sparking the Louisville Kings to a 42-27 victory over the Columbus Aviators. Garror, who previously recorded his first pro interception in last week’s 37-23 victory over Dallas, helped Louisville pull away behind a 205-yard rushing performance.
Elsewhere, the Houston Gamblers dashed the Birmingham Stallions' playoff hopes in a 26-13 victory on Saturday. Despite a 70-yard pick-six from Stallions safety Alex Cook, Houston dominated on the ground, setting a UFL single-game record with 277 rushing yards.
The Orlando Storm maintained their momentum with a 29-23 win over DC, highlighted by a 74-yard touchdown connection between Jake Plummer and Cam Camper. St. Louis headed into the postseason on a sour note, falling 20-16 to the Dallas Renegades after Dallas quarterback Austin Reed threw three touchdown passes and the Renegades defense racked up seven sacks.
